The 5th International Ecoversities Gathering took place in May 2022 in Siwa, Egypt. 110 people from 22 countries. Organized as an ‘un-conference’ or ‘emergent gathering’, we held loose processes leaving time for sharing and co-creating with self-organized sessions and open-spaces, in order to allow us to learn from different approaches and traditions of facilitation, and to honour the knowledge that comes from emergence.

In 6 days we exchanged experiences and skills in circles, in micro-workshops, thematic tables, art and healing spaces, in the kitchen, washing dishes, waking up at dawn to see the sun, laughing, but also harsh realities, were the threads of a great fabric that began to unite us. We all witnessed how these threads of Africa, America, Europe and India no longer had a beginning or an end, they linked together, allowing new universes, micro and macro, to coexist. Several new partnerships, dreams and collaborations were discussed at the gathering.
Going back to meet in the presence for our planetarian gathering in the Egyptian oasis of Siwa demonstrated the power of a pedagogy of the encounter, as being exposed to different social conditions, privileges, territories, and knowledges helped develop and reinforce our relational ties and commitment to walk against the grain, exploring together what co-creating with nature can bring and how to reinforce the awareness that change needs to produce during our lifetime for the next generations to come.
